Camping In Scenic New England

When you go camping in New England between the months of September and November you should be prepared to see some of the most immaculate scenery images in the world. With the trees giving you a vibrantly beautiful show of color against the crispest, blue skies of autumn you might find that you just don’t see a need to go anywhere else for some of nature’s most impressive shows.

New England states have a very unique and interesting charm about them. It is derived in part from the cultural history as well as in part by the rich natural history of the area. Camping in New England means coming face to face with people and nature that can literally be so stunning that it can change your perspective on life forever.

There are simple fairs, like pumpkin festivals and sheep and wool festivals to all out Oktoberfest fairs that bring out the beer drinker in all of us. Each fall festival celebrates and honors something unique. Each one is held on different grounds and each brings something new to the honorable traditions that have kept these festivals alive and well for generations.

Of course, there is plenty of crystal clear fall fishing to take up a weekend or a two week tour of these small states. Outdoor sports are part of a ling heritage within the New England borders, and those that get to participate in them do so respectfully and in awe of the natural wonders that still allow then to carry on the pride of their ancestors.

Camping in New England can mean getting caught under a few chilly nights of frost or even an early sprinkling of snow during those unpredictable autumn months. While it is important to be prepared for any camping trip, it is especially important to be able to be prepared for weather changes.

Be prepared to deal with some unexpected weather. While New England is absolutely gorgeous in the fall months it is also relatively easy to find yourself experiencing a quick and harsh change in the weather.

New England autumns can bring drastic changes from one day to the next. It is possible to experience a twenty degree drop in temperature in just an hour as a fast moving front paves the way. Keeping in touch with the weather report and being prepared for the possibility of overnight frost is just one more way to be prepared when camping in New England. Always heed all weather warnings and make sure that you are able to receive regular weather updates to make sure that you aren’t about to find yourself smack dab in the middle of the changing weather unprepared.

The Three Stooges: The Kings Of Comedy

The 3 Stooges:  Masters Of Slapstick

OK, I admit it. I love the Three Stooges!  Perhaps it is a generational thing, simply because baby boomers like me were deluged with the Three Stooges shorts on Television during our formative years.  This was back when there was no Nickelodeon, no Cable, and our TV had only 4 channels.  We essentially were stuck with whatever the broadcasters wanted to show us.  So for me, it was Warner Brothers Cartoons and also the 3 Stooges.

I’m guessing anybody who reads this post has observed the boys in action, but do we really understand who these strange people really were?

We refer to them today as Larry, Moe and Curly (or Shemp, Or Joe, or Curly Joe), but they actually began in 1922 in partnership with Ted Healy in a vaudeville act called Ted Healy and his Stooges.

The ensemble was made up of Ted Healy,  Samuel Howard (Shemp), Harry Moses Howard (Moe),and Larry Fine (Larry). In 1931, Shemp  and Ted Healy didn’t see eye to eye, and so he (Shemp) left the group for a career in feature films.  Moe wanted his brother Jerome as a substitution, but Healy wasn’t initially impressed thinking that Jerome’s lengthy hair and beard was out of character for a Stooge.  Jerome remedied the scenario by temporarily leaving the room and rapidly returning having a shaved head and face. Thus, the lovable character of Curly was born!

This ensemble lasted another 3 years until Healy’s abrasiveness (and reported alcoholism) eventually brought things to a head. The boys kicked him out, and Moe became the leader of the team. He subsequently made a deal with Columbia Pictures for an undetermined quantity of shorts. This is when the 3 Stooges, as we now know them, started their long journey into comedy history.

For the next 25 years, the Three Stooges starred in 190 film shorts; the longest in Hollywood history. They also could be found in 12 movies and entertained millions globally with their  physical routines, catch phrases, and masterful comedy.

In 1946, A seemingly catastrophic event happened: Curly endured a stroke. He was not to be exactly the same after that, and died six years later. The boys turned to Shemp once again, as he was asked to rejoin the group. The Stooges, with Shemp as Curly’s replacement, created 77 additional shorts along with a full length film known as Gold Raiders (1951). Furthermore, in 1949, Moe, Larry and Shemp made a pilot for a Three Stooges television show called ‘Jerks of All Trades’. Regrettably, the show was never purchased by the networks.  Nevertheless, the show is in the public domain and obtainable on home video.

The dynasty took another hit when Shemp passed away of a sudden heart attack in November of 1955.  A guy named Joe Besser replaced Shemp in 1956, appearing in 16 brief films. Interestingly, Joe had a sentence in his contract specifically prohibiting him from being hit too hard, even though it had been lifted as time went on. Unfortunately, Joe was a disappointing replacement for his two predecessors, plus the marketplace for short films was dwindling. These 2 factors led to the steady drop of the Stooges popularity. Columbia Pictures evenyually got around to firing the 3 Stooges in 1957.

However, a brand new media type was about to take center stage:  Television.  In 1959, Columbia Photos syndicated the whole 3 Stooges film library to the Television networks and the Stooges were rediscovered by their original audience (now in middle age).  Plus, a whole new generation of buyers (Baby Boomers) were introduced to the masters of slapstick comedy.

Stoogemania rapidly swept the entire country, which put Moe and Larry back within the spotlight again. Joe Besser, on the other hand, didn’t rejoin the act, so Moe quickly signed Joe DeRita as his replacement. DeRita shaved his head and became Curly-Joe, simply because he looked like the original Curly.

This final version from the 3 Stooges went on to make thirty nine short films along with a couple of full-length movies in the late 1950s and into the 1960s. In 1969 they filmed a pilot for a brand new Television series known as ‘Kooks Tour’, which was a show about the retired Stooges roaming the world, with episodes filmed on location. Alas, during production, Larry suffered a stroke that ended his acting career as well as the Television series. Larry had one more stroke in December 1974 and one more month later suffered a fatal stroke and died in January 1975.

It had been thought that they could continue, several movie suggestions had been pondered, however Moe Howard died in May 1975, putting an end to the dream. Even though Curly-Joe (Joe DeRita) did some live work with a new group of Stooges in the early 1970s, the Three Stooges, as we knew them, were gone.

I hope you enjoyed this glance at the 3 Stooges.  They were truly a distinctive act, and we will most likely never see their kind again.

So You Want to Move to Japan (and become a Japanese citizen), eh?

Alright, boys and girls.  I attended the panel after mine last night on “Surviving the First 6 months in Japan”.  It was great fun.  Emphasis on fun.  There were some people who wanted to know the ins and outs of actually moving to Japan and pretty much relocating there for life.  I have to interject with a few things at this point because I did not want to interrupt the wonderfully energetic panelist too much.

Japanese Citizenship

The panelist didn’t know that you could renounce your citizenship to become a Japanese citizen.  Please see this information about Renouncing Former Nationalities.  The rest of the blog has some valid information as well.

I also encourage anyone serious about moving to Japan to head over to JapanSoc and SEARCH for keywords like:  citizenship, and immigration.

I would suggest visiting TokyoCooney’s vlog on FYI Tokyo, for the real skinny about moving to and living in Japan.

You might also want to read this article on recent Immigration Procedures.

REALISTICALLY: It’s not going to happen.  I really don’t like to be the bearer of bad news, but the chances of you living your life as you imagine it as a Japanese citizen is nearly zero.  Yes, there are exceptions, and those who have done this, but these are few and far between.  Even if you qualify for the technical aspects a decade or so after arriving in Japan, you may find living there actually difficult.  Talk to some expats and get a real sense of things before you embark on the technical.  And seriously visit there a few times, as long as a visitor’s VISA will allow (3 months at a time for Canadians).

Renting an Apartment

This came up at the panel last night too.  The only time you should consider renting an apartment in Tokyo is if you will be staying for more than a year.  Otherwise, try Gaijin houses, hotels, hostels etc.

Definitely check out Sakura.

If you still think renting is the way you want to go, finding a place will be difficult.  You will need to pay a deposit plus a non-refundable key money plus an agent fee plus utilities plus have a guarantor.  Sakura breaks it down nicely here.

I just wanted to add this information before I forgot.  I enjoyed the Surviving in Japan panel, and the questions asked spurred me on to writing this quick (hopefully) informative post.

Train Sets – A Classic And Ever Popular Gift Idea

Being given a train set as a gift is, even in this modern day and age, always a pleasant and memorable experience for any young child. It will provide entertainment and pleasure for hours and will, with just a little care, last for years. It’s not uncommon for a good quality train set to be handed down from one generation to the next. Those are just some of the reasons why a train set is such a great gift idea.

A Christmas gift, or a birthday present, of a boxed starter set will be the first introduction to model trains for many young children. One of the most famous model train makers - Hornby trains - have a wide range of themed boxed sets which are perfect for just this purpose.

Some sets are intended for a particular age range – younger kids might find the Thomas The Tank Engine sets appealing – other sets are built around a particular style of engine. Needless to say, the romance of the age of steam means that steam locomotives are an ever popular choice – but more modern sets based upon diesel or electric locos are also well represented.

Over and above the locomotives and the carriages, it’s well worth giving a little thought to the actual layout of the track itself. Some sidings for the train to back in and out of will usually produce a layout that’s more entertaining than a straight circular or oval arrangement. Youngsters will enjoy picking up freight in sidings for transport around the track.

Of course, a starter set is just that – a starting point. You can expand by adding more locomotives, more carriages, extra track and a wide variety of additional accessories over time. This can produce a lot of fun and excitement in itself. Let your child plan new and interesting layouts and then put them into effect. It will really appeal to their natural creative instincts.

You can really bring a train set to life with just a few extra, well chosen, accessories. The “Skaledale” collection from Hornby offers a good range of miniature animals, people, buildings, scenery, vehicles, etc.. – all at exactly the right scale for use with Hornby oo gauge model train sets. Accessories are available for different time periods so that they are appropriate to the type of train set in use. For example, a 1930′s style delivery truck could be used very well with a steam train themed set.

A high quality train set will provide hours of fun and entertainment and will last for years. It will engage the imagination and creativity of a child and can be added to and improved over time. All things considered, a train set is a great gift idea and represents excellent value for money.

Taking the Family On A Vacation To Orlando Disney World.

Essentials: A relaxing oasis when not visiting Disney World at Florida Vacation Rental Villa Orlando
If you are considering taking the family on a holiday to Orlando Disney World, then there are a couple of things you need to bear in mind in order to generate  the once-in-a-lifetime event you wish it to be.  Allow me to share two of the best hints for tackling Orlando and Disney World with the family!

First, remember the fact that youngsters require a sleep. The theme parks are open more than children should be awake.  The perfect plan in going to the Orlando Disney World parks with the family would be to turn up just prior to opening time.  Enjoy all the thrills and spills of the park until just before lunch, and at lunchtime, leave the park together with your family.  Take time to have a good lunch outside the park and then head to your hotel to get a two to three hour sleep. Once everyone is rested and refreshed, head back to your favorite Orlando Disney World park.  Not just will you be able to enjoy the park after getting some wanted time-out, but you will also avoid being at Disney World all through the hottest and demanding time of day.  Odds are your lunch is going to be much more affordable outside the park!  One exception to this tip is when you are traveling to Orlando Disney World’s Animal Kingdom, because it closes early in the late afternoon.  If you leave for lunch and a snooze, your family will presumably not manage to see the complete park and all it offers.  As an alternative, plan to get the family to bed early the day before you go to the park, instead of going back to the hotel and getting them to take a doze. This way they will have a much better chance of getting around all of the park.

When going to Orlando’s Disney World, consider staying at one of Disney’s resort hotels. You don’t have to pay more for these, as Disney has constructed quite a few budget family-friendly hotels.  The benefits of having all your family stay in Disney World hotels are two fold.  First, the hotels grant convenient transportation right to the gate of the park, so you do not need to worry about the price of a rental car.  Not only that, but Orlando Disney World resort visitors also get early access opportunities to the parks.  Each park has an early admission day for resort guests only, and benefiting from these days will permit all your family to view a number of the more well-liked attractions prior to the rest of the park visitors turning up.  This could be an ideal way to see some of the more crowded Orlando Disney World attractions without the crowd! Check out this affordable villa near Disney for alternative accommodation while visiting Orlando Disney World.

Roll Around The World – Vacation Recommendations For Simple Wheelchair Travel

Increased emphasis on public accessibility for disabled people has opened up a whole new world for wheelchair travel. Local governments are implementing new laws regarding accessibility of walkways and buildings for the disabled, making the world at large more accessible for the disabled.

People with limited mobility are finding that elevated ramps, curb cuts, automatic door openers and wider doorways are now the norm. With few obstacles in their way and public transportation now offering features for handicapped riders, a wheelchair is not the impediment it once was. Advocates for the disabled lobbying for increased accessibility have paved the way for a new generation of wheelchair travelers.

Thanks to them, traveling people in wheelchairs are able to live their lives to the fullest and see the wonderful world that’s waiting for them. Having said that, people of limited mobility still have to plan their holidays more carefully than others. Despite these societal advances, people who must travel in their wheelchairs still need to do some advance planning to ensure their comfort and safety, especially when planning vacations in foreign countries.

The accessibility of your destination, particularly if it’s a third world country or remote area, needs to be researched, as does your hotel, airline and accessibility to medication and medical facilities. The accessibility of your airline and hotel has to be researched as does access to medical facilities, including pharmacies if you require prescription medication

Booking your vacation online is convenient but there are questions specific to your needs that you won’t find answers to on a website. Call your hotel personally to inquire about accessibility and door widths in the room. Ask for a confirmation number or code as proof of your booking. This rarely, happens, but sometimes hotels overbook and can give your room away or deny that you even made a reservation.

Check with your airline to see what type of service for disabled people they provide. Getting on the plane with a wheelchair is not generally a problem, but make sure the space provided for wheelchair passengers is available. Ask about their policy regarding wheelchairs and whether you can board the plane with your own chair or whether you must use one of theirs. If your personal wheelchair is stowed as luggage, what will happen if the luggage crew accidentally damages your chair, or what is the protocol if your chair ends up being lost or accidentally shipped elsewhere?

Does your airline require a doctor’s note listing the prescription drugs that you’re taking? This would be a smart thing to do regardless of the airline’s policy. If you’re crossing a border or even if you’re being screened at security, you can avoid needless scrutiny about any drugs you’re carrying if you have a note from your doctor.

Make sure you have proper travel insurance. This can’t be emphasized enough. People in wheelchairs can often be more vulnerable to viruses or have delicate digestion. Should you have an accident and fall from your chair, what coverage do you have and for how long. A little advance preparation will make all the difference between a nice holiday and a great holiday!

Are you looking for a new digital camera?

Are you looking for the right digital camera? To get the right camera for you, you will first need to decide what exactly you want the camera for. If you are just looking for an easy to use camera for personal home use and family photos, the main things you would want is a digital camera with a high megapixel, large storage memory for holding photos, and a fairly large LCD screen for easy viewing.

If you are a beginner in digital photography, the first thing you should do is to start taking a lot of pictures. This will let you be familiar with things such as stabilization, lighting, and ISO sensitivity. You will also want to ensure that the pictures you take will look great in a digital frame. There are many photographic blogs, forums, and websites that can help you find the right camera for you. A few  things you will need to look for include viewfinders, megapixels, ISO sensitivity, resolution, video output, optical zoom, and type of LCD viewscreen.

An important thing you should look for is ISO sensitivity. This is an indication of sensitivity to light. Sensitivity settings can range from 50, 200, 400, 800, or even as high as 3,200 on the more expensive high-end digital SLRs. For most cameras, the normal ISO sensitivity is 100. The higher the sensitivity is set, the less light you need to make an exposure. The higher ISO sensitivity may cause the picture to be more grainy. The lower the ISO sensitivity, the lower the visible noise. However, shooting at a lower ISO sensitivity will require more light than shooting at a higher ISO sensitivity. Digital cameras automatically select the ISO, but it can be changed manually on many of the cameras. The auto ISO works the better most of the time for bright scenes.

To get some more useful information, you should check out the various blogs and forums online on photography. Most of the people in the blogs and forums are very knowledgeable and are more than happy to help you find the right camera for your needs. Getting Around Tokyo – The Easiest and Cheapest Way

# Councils

The easiest way to get around Tokyo is without doubt the railway network. It rarely fails, the trains on average every six minutes, and all the important areas have several access points. The signs are usually in English and Japanese. Once you have your head around how it works, it is relatively easy to navigate. The bus, on the other hand, require that you know when your stop is imminent. A good understanding of the Japanese would really help with this! As for taxis. In a word – money.
Rail Passes #

If you have decided to remain in the Tokyo area and not travel to other parts of Japan, you can buy a local train pass once you get here. There are day passes and cards or batteries PASMO called Suica. This is mainly for two done exactly the same way. The only major difference is that the U-Bahn PASMO network is managed, while Suica is offered by JR East.

Planning is a little later in Japan? Consider purchasing a Japan Rail Pass you can for 1, 2 or 3 times per week and to buy it at almost all public transportation in Japan. The main exception is the Nozomi Shinkansen, the fastest, but you will have access to all other trains. The trip can take half an hour longer, but you will save a lot of changes.
# Yamanote Line

The Yamanote line is the ring line connecting all major areas of Tokyo. A complete loop of the city takes about an hour. If you spend some time in the big T, you are obliged to use that line at least once. He is friendly with cards in English on the platforms and near exits. On more like Shinagawa or Tokyo, do not forget the issue, you need – to review a lot! Most guides will tell you the next exit of the attractions they list.
# Other trains

There are about 40 subway lines, subway and two surfaces that run through the city. In the Tokyo metropolitan area, you can travel almost anywhere, you should have no more than 10-15 minutes on foot to get off when you go. Our best tips for the use of trains can not carry heavy bags or large items. If you need to train lines are often associated with a series of corridors and stairways. The last thing you need, especially if it is new to you, is the easy handling of large objects through the crowd.
Rush Hour #

Rush Hour is to say the least, thrilled! Avoid trains during the following periods, especially if you have children with you – 7:00 to 09:30 and from 17.30 to 19.30 clock in the evening. Of course, if you want to know what it is, on a rainy Tokyo rush hour travel, go ahead. Just be prepared to torn and shredded. This is all part of the adventure.

Tokyo Gay Pride Parade 2010 Pictures

The annual Tokyo Gay Pride Festival took place this weekend in Shibuya. For the first time since 2007, the Tokyo Gay Pride Parade returned as part of the festivities.

The Gay Pride Festival was held at the event space on Shibuya Koen Dori near Yoyogi Park. Starting Saturday morning, there were live performances by various Pride-supporting groups on the stage, as well as informational booths and tasty food on the event grounds. The booth participants included a group of international banks catering to the GLBT community in Japan, Google Japan displaying really cute t-shirts, many magazines – including The Big Issue, Amnesty International and other rights groups, and the Japanese fashion and eyeglass brand Less Than Human.

Tokyo Gay Pride Parade 2010

At around 3:00 p.m., attention turned from the stage and booth area to the parade. According to the organizers, more than five thousand people were expected to participate in this year’s Tokyo Gay Pride Parade. We didn’t count all of them ourselves, but the parade seemed bigger than the 2007 parade. This year’s parade route wound its way down Shibuya Koen Dori, turned left at Parco, left again at Meiji Dori, then went all the way down to Omotesando Dori and finally turned left toward the starting point near Yoyogi Park.

Besides the thousands of people who came out specifically to join in the fun and support the event, there were many Tokyo locals enjoying the festivities, along with Japanese and foreign tourists who just happened to find out about the parade as it noisily passed them by. They say that everyone loves a parade – and judging by the fun that the crowds along the route seemed to be having, we think this very true for the Tokyo Gay Pride Parade. Rather than try to explain any more, we’ll just show you the pictures and let you see what you missed!

We’ve posted more pictures at the Tokyo Fashion Flickr page if you’d like to see even more Tokyo Gay Pride fun.

Purple Hair, Borders Skirt & Black Parasol

This is Nimu, an 18-year-old student with purple streaked hair that caught our eye. Her ruffled black chiffon top was a gift from her mother. Her black cotton and lace skirt is from Borders. We love her chunky black pumps with leather flowers, which she’s wearing with white polka dot ankle socks.

Nimu is carrying a spangled handbag from Kinji. Her other accessories, from Forever 21 and Borders, include a black watch and a ruffled black parasol.

Nimu’s favorite places to shop are vintage and resale shops. She likes to listen to the hard rock duo B`z.

Comiket Cosplay Pictures – Summer 2010

This last weekend Comiket 78 was held at Tokyo Big Sight in the Odaiba area of Tokyo. Comiket is the largest self-published comic book (doujinshi manga) event on the planet, with over a half a million people attending each edition. Besides the tens of thousands of doujinshi comics on display, there is also a large cosplay area at Comiket. We know that cosplay isn’t really fashion, but we were in the area of the event with our camera so we thought we share some Japanese cosplay pictures with you!

Tokyo Big Sight

The building in the photo above is Tokyo Big Sight – the space-age looking convention center where Comiket takes place. Because we are in the middle of the summer in Tokyo – and the Comiket cosplay area is outside – the temperature was extremely hot. Please forgive any people who might look like they are melting in the photos (as were we while taking the pics).

Also, if you happen to know who any of these people are cosplaying, please leave a comment on this article and let us know. We can recognize Usavich cosplay, Hatsune Mix cosplay, and even Narita Express cosplay – but, we don’t know the majority of the Japanese cosplay going on here, so please let us know!

Finding The Right Las Vegas luxury vacation rental homes

When searching for Las Vegas luxury vacation rental homes most people tend to overlook some mayor issues . People  think only about  rental size and price. These are obviously the two biggest components . You have to rent somewhere that is big enough to meet your needs and small enough to fit your budget.

However, you should think of other things, too. How far are your Las Vegas luxury home rentals from main attractions?. Is this going to be  an inconvenience to get to main attractions? Is there a bus route? Are there gas stations near by that have air pumps and reasonably priced gas? What about car garages you can trust?

Make your research and find out all you can about  Las Vegas vacation rental locality. Look at the list of crimes in the paper and see if your town is the residence of any of these offenders.  Are there street lights on the street? How far is it from the police station? Drive around at all hours to see what you think of it.

Find out about the insulation of the house. Many las vegas vacation rentals  are not maintained as well as they should be because it is expensive to do so. More supplies cost more. But you may be throwing away your money because your air conditioner will have to be turned up exceedingly high to keep your house at reasonable temperatures.

Renting a Las Vegas vacation rental is rapidly becoming the favorite method for more and more families traveling on vacation or taking a short mini break to Vegas. There’s a lot to consider when renting a vacation rental home and hopefully this article will have helped you in planning your next break.  Make the wisest desition and enjoy your trip

Banal Chic Bizzare, Bold Patterns and Cool Shoes

Here are two beauty salon staffers who are both fans of bold patterns and eye-catching shoes. The guy on the left with two-tone hair is Hibino. He’s wearing a logo t-shirt from Banal Chic Bizarre. His cool shorts are by Fugahum, an indie fashion brand created by contemporary artist Akiyoshi Mishima.

Hibino’s red platform sneakers, bright blue backpack, gold necklace and pink sunglasses are also from Banal Chic Bizarre. His favorite brand is (of course) Banal Chic Bizarre and he likes reggae music.

The smiling girl on the right is Yuyu. Her bright striped dress is from Banal Chic Bizarre. She’s wearing platform heels that have a retro vibe and carrying a canvas bag from ADD. She also has some cool jewelry, including a chunky gold chain bracelet and a necklace that looks like it’s made from a zipper and gold chain.

Yuyu’s favorite shop is ADD and she also like reggae music.

Courtney Love’s All Night Dolly-Kei Party in Tokyo

Courtney Love was in Tokyo earlier this week as her band Hole played the Summer Sonic music festival. But when Courtney is in Japan, she doesn’t just play music – she also jumps right into the local fashion scene. Courtney has a long relationship with the Japanese brand Hysteric Glamour. This time, though, her Japanese fashion adventures also included an all night party with Tokyo’s most well-known Dolly-Kei girls. Sound intriguing? Read on!

Courtney Love / Hole in Tokyo

For those of you that have been following TokyoFashion.com for a while, you know that many of the staff here really like Hole vocalist – and all-around wild child – Courtney Love. Not only will she be the female poster child for the 90s fashion revival when it finally comes, but she was making big trouble on AOL practically before the founders of Twitter (where many celebrities first started showing their faces online) were out of junior high. Ahead of her time in technology, a leader of 90s fashion trends (baby doll dresses, anyone?), and she released “Live Through This” – what’s not too love? Well, there is all the drama, but that just makes us love her more.

So, with our appreciation of Courtney out in the open, we were really happy when she showed TokyoFashion.com a little love of her own earlier this year by posting some Twitter updates saying that she liked the site, and that she was really feeling the Dolly-kei fashion that we had been posting. Besides the Dolly-kei street snaps, we later published our profile on Grimoire Shibuya, and then more recently our feature on the Grimoire Anniversary Party. So, when Courtney came to Tokyo, what shop staff do you think she decided to hang with? That’s right – Grimoire!

Grimoire’s manager – the always fashionable Hitomi – posted an amazing update on the official Grimoire blog this week explaining what happened – and how happy they were about it. Here are some excerpts from the blog, translated from Japanese into English by us:

We had an amazing guest come here to Grimoire last night. At around 7pm we got a call from the Park Hyatt hotel in Shinjuku! And who should appear at the store at 8pm but rock star Courtney Love after her concert had just ended at the Summer Sonic music festival.

…….

Courtney felt the images from Grimoire were similar to her own view of the world, and she’d been visiting the Grimoire blog, site and overseas web site.

…….

She has apparently wanted to visit the store and meet all of us for a long time. I was so very happy to hear that. It made me feel again just how important it is to dive into something you love and not just do what others tell you.

…….

Then Courtney invited the whole Grimoire staff into a suite room at the Shinjuku Park Hyatt.

…….

At the hotel we listened to her talk about many things including clothing and music…she seemed to take an interest in Japanese girl’s makeup, so we taught her how to do that… lol

…….

She gave us a lot of gifts, like a Victorian outfit she wore during her concert, and other little accessories. And we talked and talked, and talked, and talked…we had a such a good time. It was 6am when I finally checked the time.

…….

That was a very happy night for us, Courtney Love, thank you thank you thank you! The picture (on the Grimoire blog) is of us with Courtney after we did her up in Japanese gal makeup.

You can read the full post on the Grimoire blog. It is mostly in Japanese, so you may need to use an online translator. There are also pictures of Courtney and the Grimoire staff together at the Park Hyatt posted on the blog – check out the pictures and be amazed!

Besides her all-night Dolly-kei party, Courtney also visited with the popular Japanese fashion brand Hysteric Glamour. Hysteric has offered a Courtney Love collection (and a Nirvana collection) for several years, so that’s no surprise. She posted photos of herself at the “secret” Hysteric store in Tokyo, along with other Courtney-in-Japan fashion pictures on her personal blog What Courtney Wore Today.

Seeing Courtney showing her love for the Japanese fashion scene, both on the indie (Grimoire) and the major (Hysteric Glamour) levels, makes us very happy.

Credits: The photo used in this article was taken by the Flickr user Yangon at Hole’s performance in Tokyo. (We were at the show too, but we like this photo better than ours!) The quotes from the Grimoire blog are all courtesy of Grimoire.
